May 27, 2021

by Ma Raim

The cannabis market changed following legalization in 2018. Now, more than ever, a wide range of people are consuming cannabis products as a part of their regular health and wellness routine. That being said, the number of people consuming cannabis through means other than smoking is continuing to rise. Here are some of the many ways of consuming cannabis.

Smoking and Vaping Cannabis

Of course, smoking cannabis is one of the most traditional ways of consuming cannabis and still the go-to consumption method for a number of people. That being said, even the way people are smoking is changing. For many, vaping is an easier and healthier alternative to other ways of inhaling cannabis. With the technology available today, customers can vape their favourite dried weed flower, or alternatively a vape liquid such as a vape pen or tank style vape cartridge.

Edibles

Cannabis edibles have quickly become one of the most popular alternatives to smoking. A recent report by ArcView predicted the market for edibles will quadruple by 2022 to a total of $4.1 billion. Edibles’ share of the total cannabis market has already more than doubled, from 5.4 percent in 2011 to the current 12 percent.

There are many different types of edibles, which is one of its many appeals alongside the fact that they’re discrete and easy to dose. Check out the wide variety of edibles in our online dispensary.

Cannabis Gummies

The most common edibles are infused gummies, as there are so many different options. Cannabis gummies are simply traditional gummy products infused with CBD or THC, they come in various shapes including bears, circles, fruits, etc. Not only are they tasty but they’re easy to use. The package outlines the amount of THC or CBD per gummy and the appropriate dose, though it’s generally easy to reduce the dose by cutting the gummy in half, if necessary.

Cannabis Chocolates

Another popular way of consuming cannabis edibles is cannabis-infused chocolates. A good number of people, dare we say most, love chocolate so it’s a great way of consuming cannabis, particularly in the evening before bed. Make sure to pay attention to the dose prior to purchasing as the dose per portion (ie. per square) may vary between products.

CBD Capsules

For those who are looking for something a little less sweet or don’t want to taste any cannabis flavours, CBD capsules are a great alternative. The capsules are predosed so they’re easy to use and can be taken alongside your regular morning supplements. The only downside is they’re predosed and if you cannot find the right dose they’re challenging to change.

Though the options don’t end there where it comes to edibles. If you enjoy cooking or baking you can make your own cannabis edibles using cannabis distillate such as phoenix tears or other cannabis-infused products. But even if you aren’t a talented baker, you can still make your own edibles with products such as infused honey, caramel, or syrups. If you’re making your own edibles, make sure to accurately calculate the dose and please use responsibly.

One important thing to note with edibles, particularly for new users, is that the effects take longer to set in than with other consumption methods. As a result, it’s important to wait 45 minutes to an hour before increasing your dose.

Concentrates

Concentrates are becoming a more common method of cannabis consumption. Cannabis concentrates are cannabis-derived extracts that contain a concentrated amount of THC or CBD as well as other cannabinoids and terpenes, these include products like distillate, wax, shatter, etc. People are generally drawn to concentrate because they have a higher potency, provide faster relief, and may have a better flavour than smoking flower, particularly if the terpenes are preserved or added back in.

Because of the higher concentration of cannabinoids, concentrates tend to be better suited for more experienced users.

Topicals

Cannabis topicals have quickly gained the attention of numerous cannabis dispensaries as well as beauty brands and have become an integral part of a number of peoples skincare and beauty routines. Cannabis topicals are any products that are applied directly to the skin, such as, balms, lotions, creams, etc. Cannabinoids have shown potential in their ability to provide healing, soothing, and balancing properties to our regular skincare routine. This is believed to be due, at least in part, to the CB2 cannabinoid receptors located in our skin.

Cannabis topicals are not only great for skincare but appeal to consumers because they can be applied directly to the site of pain or inflammation. Not only that but their anti-oxidizing properties trap in moisture which has the potential to reduce the signs of ageing. An additional benefit associated with topicals is that the cannabinoids act on a peripheral basis, meaning they do not enter the bloodstream. As a result, a person can apply higher doses of THC at the site of pain without worrying about the psychoactive effects - there won’t be any.

How to Use Cannabis Topicals

Cannabis topicals are applied in the same manner as any lotion or balm, but they can have numerous uses. Something like our CBD Antioxidant Moisturizer can be used daily to keep the skin hydrated and smooth, soothe the skin, and reduce the look of redness. Or a CBD/THC cream applied as needed to problem skin areas or at the site of pain or inflammation. Or even CBD Tiger Balm, before, during, or after a workout to combat sore muscles and joints.

One thing you don’t have to worry about when it comes to topicals is overdoing it. So, apply generously and don’t hesitate to reapply if you think you need it.
