Buying weed has again become more complicated. Just as buying weed was starting to become normalized, enter the Coronavirus AKA Covid-19 and the panic, stock piling, shortages, and social isolation that come with it. So what will this do to the Canadian Cannabis industry? Will pot run out? Are people stock piling? What about medical users who are at the highest risk right now? We have talked to several industry leaders and have answers for you below.

Canadian Cannabis/Dispensaries and Coronavirus

The coronavirus or Covid-19 is spreading rapidly throughout the world. The World Health Organization has asked the general public to adopt precautionary measures to stop the spread. As our nation tries to contain the coronavirus (COVID-19), you've likely by now found yourself in a state of isolation. Working from home, staying in, and avoiding large crowds have become the status quo for the foreseeable future. So what does this mean for those of us using cannabis? How can you avoid transmitting the virus, and what should you do if you become so bored that watching paint dry sounds like fun?

What do Quarantine and Social Distancing Mean?

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), it is now in everyones best interest to practice social distancing (symptoms of sickness or not). We musty gather as a community and protect our most vulnerable from the coronavirus, which has an unprecedented high mortality rate.

But what's the difference between quarantine and social distancing? Vox recently reported on coronavirus and the utilization of social distancing to help quell the spread of the virus. To quarantine is to separate individuals completely from the public if it is believed that they have been exposed, yet aren't showing symptoms of sickness. Social distancing on the other hand, requires the public to refrain from social gatherings and maintain a conservative and clear radius around oneself and others when out and about.

Even if you are symptom free, you can still be a carrier of COVID-19. According to various experts, you should be avoiding social interaction as much as possible at this time. This includes skirting the gym, cancelling non-essential appointments such as beauty treatments, stepping away from birthday parties and large family or friend gatherings, and keeping a healthy separation between you and the public when grocery shopping or running errands.

Weed and Coronavirus?

Should you give up buying weed and smoking during the Coronavirus outbreak to avoid germs? Not necessarily. Per the CDC, as long as you keep clean, wash your hands, use sanitizer, and shine up your living spaces, you should be good to carry on with usual habits. It's also a great idea to use your isolation to sanitize all of your cannabis gear.

Saving Money While Stocking up on Weed

What is going on with supply; In the Canadian market place there has been an abundance of weed characterized as an over supply. While that is a very simplistic way of describing it, effectively the large LP grown weed is plentiful, however more and more dispensaries are shutting their doors. As the online retailer has no access to LP produced marijuana, and the demand is ever increasing; what is happening in the grey market?

Most provinces offer online or delivery services like HotGrass, ideal for buying weed until the coronavirus has calmed down. Once you find a retailer, sign up for their mailer and check out the deals section; like our Ice Wreck on for $79.99. Now is a great time to stock up on your favourite strains as many growers are shutting down due to employees staying home. Consider concentrates like shatter and crumble which have a crazy high THC content and provide more bang for your buck.

Shake out your Kief! Has is been a while since you've cleaned out your grinder? Is there a pile of Leif in the trapper that's just waiting to shine? Kief can make any smoke session just a bit stonier-- all you have to do is sprinkle any leftover particles over fresh bowls of cannabis and you're good to go. Its one of the simplest ways to stretch your stash.

Look for high THC strains to maximize your dollar. Strains like Peanut Butter Breath will leave you feeling absolutely rocked. Instead of going through a full joint, one or two puffs of this high THC strain could be all you need for the same effect.

Regardless of the method and strain, stock up, stay safe, keep your distance and make the most of your time indoors.
